Codex in Context Conversations

These conversations, hosted by class T.A., Kate Wildman, highlight the themes and ideas explored in Chantal Zakari's Codex in Context class and the rich Artists’ Book collection available through the Tufts SMFA Library.

The morning session of the Codex in Context seminar began in the SMFA Library as the class reviewed and discussed relevant books. These conversations occurred within feet of SMFA’s newly featured WaveFarm Radio booth. Chantal suggested we use this exciting resource which allows the class to extend these conversations, and allow new listeners to tune in.

Enjoy and please share!

About the Class:

Codex in Context is a School of the Museum of Fine Arts class taught by Chantal Zakari, through which graduate and undergraduate students explore the possibilities of the digitally designed and published artist’s book.

Throughout the course of one semester students are introduced to a variety of books which illustrate concept/design; learning to discuss and constructively critique text/type, voice, audience, sequencing and more.

By the end of the semester, each student will have created an authentic book which the artist may independently publish and reproduce through services offered by digital publication companies like Lulu and blurb.
